John P. Fishwick Dedication
John P. Fishwick Dedication
The Fishwick family proudly stands with a portrait of John P. Fishwick. "This is the greatest honor he's ever received," said Doreen Fishwick.  She made those remarks during the official dedication of John P. Fishwick Middle School.  Mr. Fishwick grew up in Southeast Roanoke and attended the school as a kid.  He later became the leader of the Norfolk and Western Railway.  He died in 2010.

Fishwick, and his family, were honored during the ceremony inside the school's auditorium.  It included a performance by the orchestra and remarks by Principal Delp.  His widow, Doreen Fishwick, hopes her husband's passion for hard-work and getting a good education will inspire students.  "Work hard and your dream will come true.  Who knows?  Maybe one day they may name a school for you," said Mrs. Fishwick.

The District unveiled an official portrait of Mr. Fishwick.  It will be permanently displayed inside the school.  David Goode, retired chairman, president and CEO of Norfolk Southern Corporation, traveled from Florida to applaud John P. Fishwick's many contributions to the Roanoke Valley.
